Technological innovations from the physical sciences have greatly transformed archeological perspectives about the past. Today, archeologists utilize a wide range of tools developed in physics, chemistry, and the other hard sciences to analyze the nature of site locations and material remains. As the case of the “Iceman” demonstrates, these tools are helping archeologists to more accurately describe and interpret past events, environments, and cultures. The Council’s spring workshop at Tamarack will briefly highlight the use of a number of state-of-the art technologies in archeology.
Any experts who are interested in giving a 20 minute presentation on geophysical testing; LIDAR; GIS; GPS; digital imaging; or other technological application is encouraged to contact David N. Fuerst at (304)465-6530 or dnfuerst@suddenlink.net.
